Tannat, native to Madiran in southwest France, has been grown in our estate vineyards since 2004. Our inaugural bottling was so well received that we tripled the planting. While wine from this grape can be quite tannic and astringent, these rustic qualities have been tempered by ageing 21 months in French oak casks. There are aromas of dried herbs, brambly purple fruits, anise and layers of earth. The resolved palate and integrated spice lends itself to traditional Basque “pintxos” such as bread topped with duck rillette.
