Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
This complex full-bodied wine was assembled from our best barrels of Malbec. Aromas of blackberries, chocolate, oak and dried lavender meld with broad tannins and an earthy spice to create both tension and balance in this structured wine.
Ratings
93 points, Decanter Magazine, A barrel selection that shows the real potential of Southern Oregon for varieties that do well in reliably ripening environments. This full-bodied wineremains fresh and balanced throughout. Opulence and power wrapped in trueelegance, this estate Malbec shows aromas of dried violets and generous berryfruits. Ripe red raspberries followed by blackberries and mint. The palate isvelveteen. Flavours of sweet ripe blueberry, cinnamon and baking chocolate arebalanced by a mineral graphite spine and the finish, long, luxurious, and rich.; 90 Points, Vinepair, This Malbec from Oregon's Umpqua Valley has stunning savory characteristics. The nose is like a bouquet of wild herbs and dried lavender. The palate brings juicy cherries and red plums, balanced by grippy tannins. The oak is well-integrated and leaves a lingering spice note on the finish. If you haven't tried Malbec from Oregon, this is a great place to start. 93 Points, Paul Gregutt, "The nose jumps out with gloriously dusty scents of brambly berries and pastry cherries. The cooperage, though neutral, has added just enough barrel spice to complement the fruit. Though Malbec has not been the varietal wine that has made Abacela’s reputation, it could certainly be the next groundbreaking success if this is the new standard."
