Introducing… PARAMOUR

The wine that inspired Abacela 20 years ago

We are thrilled to announce the release of our 2005 Paramour, a new American wine style and our finest and most age worthy bottling. Paramour is the culmination of our dream to craft an American Gran Reserva style Tempranillo that was, until now, only made in Spain. It is also the reason we moved to Southern Oregon's Umpqua Valley in 1994 to farm at the climactic edge, and we've kept the project a secret until now. Read More

The 2005 Paramour was bottled on August 9, 2007 with sequentially numbered labels. The suggested retail price is $90 per bottle, or $540 for six tissue-wrapped bottles placed in a custom wooden case.

Read Paul Gregutt's blog about the Paramour.

Private Tastings

Italian Variety Tasting; January 14th, 1:00 pm

Now available in our Vine & Wine Center Abacela is pleased to announce a series of VIP Tastings of its fine wines that will be personally hosted by Earl Jones the founder and first winemaker of Abacela or Andrew Wenzl winemaker. These events are set in the new Vine & Wine Center’s private venues of the Bacchus Room and Library Wine Cellar and will run once a month and rotate venues. The tastings are truly immersive in nature and are part of Abacela’s “new concepts in wine tourism". Each experience will take you to the next level of wine appreciation. The wines will be carefully paired with tapas that further elevate the experience. You may also schedule private tastings in advance by contacting the Vine & Wine Center directly.

Welcome!

Here, on sunny south sloping rocky hills, we passionately grow Tempranillo, Albarino, Syrah, Merlot, Dolcetto, Malbec, Grenache, and other varietals carefully matched to our unique microclimate.

The estate fruit is hand picked when optimally ripe and gently fermented and processed in a gravity flow winery to preserve quality. The crisp, fresh varietal character of our white wine is a product of our vineyard practices and minimal handling wine making philosophy. Application of these same principals to red wine production, with additional prolonged cellaring in small oak casks, further enhances flavor and stabilizes the wines.

Consequently our red wines are big and deeply-colored with intense aromas and flavors that have ample structure and tannin for aging. The final products are balanced wines with distinctive varietal character that pair exceptionally well with an assortment of delicious foods.

Our ultimate objective is to produce wines that are a statement of the harmony between the grape variety and its terroir. We appreciate your virtual visit to Abacela, but want to encourage you to tour our vineyards and winery and taste our wines to fully appreciate our passion.

New release:  2011 Verjus:  Verjus is a non-alcoholic juice, made from Abacela’s estate vitis vinifera grapes. Uses include salad dressing, marinades, deglazing, and drinks. It is a good replacement when a recipe calls for vinegar or lemon juice because Verjus doesn’t compete with the wine you are serving. Our Verjus is available at the winery, through our webstore, or at select Oregon retailers. Press Release
