The Oregonian, Matt Kramer
"This is benchmark viognier." Abacela's 2007 viognier has just been released and, once again, it's mighty fine. It's fragrant with intense yet restrained notes of honeysuckle, lime and tropical fruits -- and just the right degree of viognier's signature spiciness on the palate. more...
Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Our estate vineyards in Southern Oregon’s Umpqua Valley have proven to be an ideal terroir for Viognier.
This vintage, comprised of a summer free of heat spikes and a perfect ripening period, produced beautifully ripe fruit with exquisite flavor and naturally balanced sugars and acids.
As the rose petal and honeysuckle aromas lift they are augmented by deep, intense pineapple, passion fruit, and mango. Rich flavors of honey, peach, and apricot are buoyed by vibrant yet perfectly balanced acidity and a seamless, creamy texture.
This Viognier is dry and elegant with sufficient concentration to improve over the next three to four years.
We suggest pairing this wine with chèvre-stuffed chicken breast and tarragon butter.
