Winemaker's Tasting Notes
The key to producing our Tempranillo Umpqua Cuvee is exacting control of the fermentation to achieve the proper level of fruit expression without excessive tannin extraction. This is by no means an easy task, but our experience has enabled us to consistently produce a fruit forward, balanced, earlier maturing wine that does not require cellaring.
For the 2006 vintage we utilized selected blocks from our estate hillsides, McCorquodale Vineyard, and Delfino Vineyard.
By using individual vineyard blocks of specific clonal selections we highlight Tempranillo’s inherent red, blue and black fruit with tobacco, pepper, and spice hints. While delicious now it will improve over the next three years.
Try this wine with dishes ranging from Serrano tapas to smoked mozzarella and chorizo flatbread or
with simple, flavorful foods like roasted garlic spread and balsamic crostini or even salted almonds and manchego.
