More Great Oyster Wines
By Chuck Hil, WinesNW.com March 31, 2007
Abacela 2006 Albariño - This wine is just being released and will no doubt prove to be very popular. Your nose will detect intriguing aromas of lemongrass, stone fruits and citrus with hints of apple blossom and tropical fruits. The palate is impeccably balanced with rich flavors of pear and pineapple, finishing with notes of grapefruit and flinty mineral. Abacela's Albarino should be on everyone's list of top shelf oyster wines.
Winemaker's Tasting Notes
As our newest block comes into production we find ourselves ever more captivated by this unmistakably noble Iberian varietal.
In 2006 we harvested our finest crop ever. This vintage is remarkable for its fine balance and fruit complexity. Apricot and floral aromas are complemented by lemongrass, peach, and pink grapefruit.
The palate’s sumptuous ripe pineapple and apple flavors lead into a creamy texture with lemon meringue and mineral notes carried on a dry, delicate finish.
This crisp wine makes an ideal pairing with brown butter-seared tuna and salad nicoise with cilantro-pear vinaigrette.
