A Study in the "Terroir of Fine Wine"

The Bacchus Room, July 23rd, 1:00-3:00 pm (Max. 12 ppl)
The six wines and their food pairings are;
Three Abacela Estate Syrah bottlings all from the fine 2005 vintage in which each was grown in a different Abacela microclimate. The wine’s “terroir” is reflected in these wines and you will see how the place grown largely determines the taste and character of each wine. These 6 year old Syrahs will be served with innovative “pancetta bonbons” that not only pair beautifully but serve as a foil against which to compare and contrast the wines.
Cool:
2005 Syrah; Terroir: Cooler blocks
Warm:
2005 Syrah Estate; Terroir: Warm benchlands blocks
Hot:
2005 Reserve Syrah; Terroir: Hot hillsides; (Southern Oregon's only 95 point wine)
The other half of this tasting consists of three different varieties not commonly grown in the same regions but all grown at Abacela in very different sites that are carefully matched to their distinct needs.
Cool:
2010 Albariño Terroir: Coolest north slope blocks; Pairing: Radish Delights /Sweet Butter & Salt
Warm:
2007 Tempranillo Estate; Terroir: Benchlands; Pairing: Rioja-Style Potatoes with Chorizo
Hot:
2007 Estate Port; Terroir: Our hottest hillside locations; Pairing: Chocolate assortment
