Wine-Photography Trip in Argentina

Abacela Winery & Nature Photography Adventures
Bring you our second Wine and Photography Tour...

Abacela's 2019 Argentina Salta Highland Wine & Photography Adventure

November 9-18, 2019

This is the second in the series of wine and photography tours custom built for members of Abacela’s Llaneros Wine Club! The trip will be led by Earl and Hilda Jones, founders of Abacela, and Bob Harvey and Diane Kelsay of Nature Photography Adventures. We have woven together opportunities to explore the Northern Highlands of Argentina, including its Altiplano zone, with tastings and tours at a number of exciting and ground breaking wineries of this high altitude wine region. We’ll have great culinary experiences, paired with wine. And, there will be expert guidance to help you capture images of both the exciting natural history and of the vineyards and wineries that we’ll visit.

Salta’s wine regions are among the lowest latitudes and highest altitudes for winemaking on the planet! The alluvial topsoils are similar to those of Mendoza. Argentina’s signature grape varieties grow well here. Torrontes (white) and Malbec (red) are featured wines. The region is very successful with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tannat and Chardonnay as well!

You can buy your favorite wines and fly home with them!

• Note: We encourage you to arrive a day early (November 8), as a buffer to flight delays and to give you a chance to recover from long flights and see a little of Buenos Aires.

November 9 – Arrival

Land in Buenos Aires – you will be met by an English-speaking guide and given a private transfer to Hotel Mia. You are free to rest up from your flight, or explore the neighborhood.

For those who come in a day early or don’t need to rest up after arrival, Diane and Bob will be leading an exploration of La Recoleta Cemetery with cameras (La Recoleta is ranked as one of the most interesting in the world and resting place for Evita Perón). This is a great opportunity to get some advice and practice with your camera before we get underway!

This evening, we’ll have a welcome dinner with great wine!

We’re off, early this morning, to catch a flight to Salta, in Northern Argentina. There, we’ll connect with our driver and guide and journey north and west and uphill to Purmamarca! We are jumping right into things, with an afternoon visit to Dupont Winery!

You’ll love our Purmamarca base camp – La Comarca! It is set in a valley close to the Hill of Seven Colors!
